At age 74, my Mother, who had never had a driver's license, and due to my Dad's failing health, decided to learn how to drive ... she succeeded and this is what I wrote.
I woke up one morning
and sat up with a grin,
I had a sneaky feeling
How this day just might begin.
I had my drivers permit
'Twas easy as could be,
But going out on solo
Was what was bothering me.
I drove up to the courthouse
And trying to look brave,
Saw coming there before me
The "trooper," tall and grave.
He assured me, "don't you worry
I do this every day."
So I turned on my ignition
And started on my way.
He had me giving signals
I'd tried so hard to learn,
And when he said, "go right or left"
I forgot which way to turn.
Then came the final question
"Let's see you park parallel."
I knew by his expression
I hadn't done too well.
But then he wrote on paper
The good things and the bad,
The good things were out-numbered
My license I now had!!
