One day not very long ago
My "Sweetie" said to me
I love you "Punkin," don't you know
You're all I want or see.
And as each day went speeding by
Our love grew more and more,
We planned our future side by side
with happiness in store.
I even had a diamond ring
That he had give me,
I wore it proudly like a queen
I loved him so, you see.
We even planned a honeymoon
Quite lengthy it would be,
For soon we would be bride and groom
And apart we'd never be.
Then, one night when the stars were hid
By low clouds hanging low,
He came to me just like a kid
To tell me he must go.
He took the ring from off my hand
And said his love had died,
And so alone I now will stand
With no one by my side.
I know it's wrong to just go on
Pretending every day,
And I must tell myself he's gone
He'll not come back someday.
But still I'll always think of him
As someone very dear,
And sometimes when my life seems dim
I'll just pretend he's near.
