To My Children

My dearest children, all so fair
And grown you've come to be,
Where'ere I am I feel you there
Your faces each, I see.

You're in my thoughts all through the day
And even in the night,
I wish you weren't so far away
So I could hold you tight.

I know that these are not the things
You really want to hear,
But oh, the joy you each did bring
I wish t'was yesteryear!

I surely failed as "perfect Mom"
But tried so hard to be,
I cried when each left for your "prom"
I'd try not let you see.

And then when "Graduation Day"...
With each of you arrived,
More often I began to pray
For things you each had strived.

I knew each night without a prayer
God still was looking down,
And He would keep you in His care
With blessings all around.

Sometimes we feel we've not been blest
With things from God above,
But oh it's only just a test
Of His undying love!

He only wants to feel we care
And true to HIm we'll stand,
Because our burdens all, He'll bear
If we'll walk hand-in-hand.

So Dearest Children, this my plea
And oh, my earnest prayer,
Within your hearts you'll find the key
That you and "He" can share.
